Putting the Fun in a Fun Run
Mile East Productions is involved in a number of fun run events within Yarmouth area. Starting six years ago, Candice took on the task of re branding the Strides for Change event, with all proceeds supporting the local MADD chapter.
Prior to her leadership, the event attracted less then a dozen people. Today, we're pleased to report that our highest attendance year has seen approximately 200 participants! It's become known as one of the signature running events in the Yarmouth area and attracts runners from the Tri-County region (Digby, Yarmouth and Shelburne Counties).
Mile East is introducing two new runs to Yarmouth this year. In May, as part of the Yarmouth Craft Beer Festival, The HOP Run was introduced. The course offered participants the choice of 1, 2 or 3miles in loop format. At the end, each participant received either 1, 2 or 3 cold, refreshing beers depending on how far they had run. Finishers also received a medal in the form of a bottle opener to enjoy more beverages at home.
This September, the Starlight Runway Run will take place at the Yarmouth International Airport. This is a night race, running under the stars and illuminated by the airport runway lights. The race will take runners across the airport runway to create a moving celebration of light and allow participants to run underneath the majestic wings of aircraft's as part of the 80th year celebrations of the Yarmouth Airport. Every participant will receive light up swag, maverick style aviator sunglasses and adults will receive a fitted technical t-shirt. All finishers will receive a custom finisher's medal.
Putting together a fun run is a lot of work. From sourcing swag and planning an amazing playlist to organizing volunteers, it takes 6-12 months to put together a successful event. The most important piece is deciding on a theme or concept and carrying it out throughout the event.
